Rachel and Jason’s Perfect Day
We have been waiting to feature this gorgeous wedding for a little while now, so we are particularly excited to finally showcase the love story and wedding day of Rachel Marie Christopher and Jason Paul Antrobus.
Rachel and Jason’s Love Story
When we met I was living in the Isle of Man and Jason was living in North Wales. The first few months we were dating were difficult as we were apart a lot of the time – we did a lot of weekend trips. We quickly realised we couldn’t face anymore painful goodbyes and we made the decision that Jason would move his life to the Isle of Man. We were both shocked at how quickly we knew this was the right thing to do and we haven’t looked back since.
Jason planned it all and I was none the wiser. He had asked my mum, dad and granddad for permission to marry me. Austria has always been a very special place for me – somewhere I have been visited since I was 18 months old. We were going on holiday there with my parents and Jason planned the perfect proposal.
He found where my favourite place was and when we reached it while walking in the mountains he pulled me to one side and said I made him the happiest man alive and then pulled out this ring box.
It was the most beautiful ring and exactly what I would have picked – he knows me very well. I hugged and kissed him and had a massive smile on my face and then Jason reminded me I hadn’t actually said yes.
Afterwards Jason told me he nearly had a panic in airport security when the man wanted to search his bag and found the ring box whilst I was stood at his side. It could have been a very different proposal if the guy had opened the box in front of me.
The Wedding Planning
It took us 10 months from end of September 2016 until August 2017 to plan. Our wedding date was Saturday 5th August 2017 with our ceremony being held at the Villa Arcade, and reception in the Colonnade Suite, Villa Marina.
I found the whole experience incredibly easy. I am a Project Manager and I treated this as another project. Jason was always winding me up about my spreadsheets. We both really enjoyed the planning and were both equally involved.
My wedding dress was simple and elegant. There was elegant detail down the back but the front was very simple. I wore a long veil with Swarovski crystals at the bottom which shimmered in the light. I wore a pearl necklace and earrings. My shoes were from Rainbow Club and were a retro style which a thick heel.
The Bridesmaids wore Dessy dresses in three different styles and three different shades of purple.
The groom and groomsmen wore grey suits with a waistcoat and purple cravat.
A big thanks goes to Jo Clarke for her embroidery for the wedding morning and hen night!
The Wedding Theme
For our wedding we went with Rustic but elegant theme. Our table centres were wooden jars decorated with hessian ribbon.
DIY & Personal Touches
My brownie group made Jason and I two banners to put up in the venue. They were lovely, made in heart shapes with messages from each of them. We did the place names and menu choices ourselves and decorated them to go with our colour scheme. In terms of personalisation I had hangers made and dressing gowns for the bridesmaid to get ready with.
Our wedding favours were very simple as we didn’t want to get people something they wouldn’t use. We got a scroll made thanking people for coming and this was accompanied with chocolate hearts wrapped in purple.
Our stationery was also very simple and elegant. We designed invitations using purple hearts and swirls and then got these made for us.
For our flowers, we used Denise at Robinsons and we very much left this in her hands. We had a mixture of purple (different shades) and cream flowers arranged in a relaxed way that made the flowers appear natural.
For the entertainment we had a DJ from Matt Fletcher Entertainment and our own compilation of songs during the ceremony and the meal.
As for the wedding cake we had a 3 tier cake with different tiers (chocolate, lemon drizzle, white chocolate and raspberry). This was decorated with hessian Ribbon and purple flowers and hearts. There was also a small fruit cake. We had a cake topper specially made that was personalised to look like us and dressed in suit and wedding dress. Lots of guests commented about how beautiful this was.
Tell us about the wedding speeches!
They were beautiful and made a lot of people very emotional. My dad gave the first speech and talked about how proud he was and how like him I have become in terms of hard working ethnic despite the fact I always said I wouldn’t be. Jason gave a beautiful speech and reduced me to tears talking about the being the happiest man in the world and about the people who couldn’t be at the wedding and were deeply missed. The best man, Jason’s brother Adam gave the last speech and talked about his big brother and how happy he is.
The Day Before
The day before the wedding I was just really excited. It flew by but we were both so happy it was finally here. We couldn’t wait to be married. We spent the day putting together the final touches and picking up various family members and friends from the airport and boat. The evening about 20 of us went for a big meal. Then I stayed at home while Jason spent the night at my parents.
The Vows & Traditions
We both wrote our own vows which were really personal and contained sayings that were special to us. Reading these at the ceremony made it extra special.
I kept the tradition of something old (Picture of my Nan and Granddad) Something new (dress) something Borrowed (ring from my auntie) and Something blue (a sapphire on the bottom of my shoe). I also had a sixpence in my shoe.
What did you splash out on and what did you save on?
We splashed out on the photography package as this is our memories of our special day. My wedding dress we saved on as I fell in love and for once when I looked at the price it was a good price.
Do you have any money saving tips for other brides and grooms?
Get a jar that you have to smash to open. My best friend bought us one as an engagement present and we put all our loose change into this. Over the 10 months we had saved enough to pay car and flowers and we hadn’t missed the money.
Your Best Wedding Idea
Having the Double Decker horse tram decorated and doing trips up and down the prom for our guests.
What did you both do for your hen and stag parties?
I had a day out on the Isle of Man with friends and family. We went to the Foot Health Clinic for a Pamper morning which was fantastic and we were well looked after. We then went for Afternoon Tea at the Sefton and then onto Bar George. We also had a pre-wedding weekend at Ribby Hall Hotel and Spa with our family and closest friends and partners. This was a great weekend and relaxing for all.
Your Best Wedding Advice
Use spreadsheets to track all items and budget. We also found it useful to attend the wedding fayres and use Facebook for ideas as well as Pinterest.
If you had the chance, would you go back and change anything about your special day?
Not a thing!!!!!!
Your Most Emotional Moment
Saying our vows which we wrote ourselves and also our first dance. It was hard that there were people that were missing from the day and we felt this at certain points – especially my grandad, who was so excited for our wedding, but passed away before the day. However, we know they would have been so happy knowing how happy we make each other.
